The Other Side of the Fence

“Strike THREE!” the umpire yelled.

Jose looked on from left field and saw the opposing batter walk slowly to the dugout, bat dragging along the ground. Jose looked back down at the grass. As usual, he was searching for insects.

Jose’s coach must have told him a million times that he had to stay alert in the field in case any balls were hit his way. He couldn’t help but daydream today though—there hadn’t been one ball hit in his direction and the game was already in the sixth inning. He hated playing left field. It seemed like no one ever hit balls to left field.

Jose caught sight of a small grasshopper a few steps from him. Grasshoppers are his favourite insect. This one was small and brown. He stared at it and wished it would hop over to him so he could get a closer look.

THWACK!

The sound of the bat hitting the ball made Jose look up. The ball was heading right in his direction! This ball was well hit. It would definitely land over his head. He turned and started running.

Jose tried to locate the ball, turning his head around while running toward the fence. He picked up speed. He was running as fast as he possibly could.

It appeared that he was on track to catch the ball, but a quick glance forward made him realize that he was going to run straight into the home run fence! He braced for impact.

Instead of feeling pain at the moment he expected to hit the fence, Jose went through the fence and ended up on the other side.

Jose had been transported into another world.

He could not believe his eyes…

He was alone at school. He started walking around calling his friends but no one was there. He remembered that it was the baseball game and his school would be on the bleachers cheering for the team. He went outside of school looking for everyone but there wasn’t anyone on the bleachers and on the field. He thought of bumping into the fence again. So, he charged towards the fence, running as fast as he can go. BOOM!!!! He was back on the other side and he has the ball in his hand. The person who hit the ball was halfway around the diamond. He threw the ball to the catcher as the person who hit the ball, slid towards the last plate. The catcher caught the ball and his team won, the crowd went wild!. Jose’s friend Jeremy asked,”When happened, you almost knocked out there bumping into the fence?” All Jose said was,”Tricked Ya!”.

reader08 Jose’s jaw dropped as he watched in awe a land completely made out of chocolate and candies. He stood in front of a river made up of melted chocolate. Jose badly wanted to dive into the river and never come out. But instead he dipped in his tongue and took little licks at a time. Jose let his eyes wander through the Land of Delicacies. The trees were composed of candy canes and mint leaves. He saw that the pebbles were actually peppermint. There was no sign of life to be seen. Jose glanced at his watch and saw it was 6: 30! He’s has been here for 2 hours! “ That’s weird! I didn’t even do anything! I only took a few sips of the river and took a look around.” Again, another surprise. When Jose took a glanced at the river, he saw it was dry. Jose had drank up the entire river! He decided to be heading back home since time flies by so fast in this place. He started to head back the way he came, stopped and then ran towards the fence. It was solid. Jose was trapped forever!
