Growing Up
Blake walked back into the apartment lobby with his younger brother Milo by his side. They had spent their afternoon playing catch in the park. Blake had been frustrated because Milo couldn’t catch well.
Yea, yea… Milo was only 5 years old and still learning, and Blake was 10 — and “Blake should be more patient”, as their mom constantly reminded him. Blake had heard it all before.
The boys approached the elevator and Milo pushed the button to go up. As the boys waited for the elevator to come down to the lobby, Blake had an idea.
“Hey, Milo, I’ll race you”, Blake said.
“Race? How?” Milo asked.
“As soon as the elevator comes, you go in and push the button for 3”, Blake instructed. “I’ll run up the stairs to the 3rd floor. We’ll see who gets their first.”
“Ding”. The elevator arrived at the lobby floor. Milo stepped in and Blake bolted toward the staircase.
Blake ran up the stairs two at a time, past the sign for the second floor and then onto the third. Then, he raced down the hallway to the elevator. Milo wasn’t in the hallway yet, and Blake was pleased with himself.
“Yes, I win!” Blake panted, as he pressed his ear close to the elevator doors to hear it coming.
“Ding”. The doors opened and a man walked out — a young man, about 20-years-old. Blake had a vague sense that he knew this person.
“Milo?” Blake asked, confused, looking past the man and seeing the elevator was otherwise empty.
“Hello Blake”, said the 20-year-old Milo. “We have a lot to talk about.”
Story Endings
No we don’t have anything to talk about old Milo said Blake. Yes, we do said Milo. We have to have a race Blake to see who is faster down the stars,said Milo. Fine, let’s do it, said Blake. While Blake and 20 year old Milo were running Blake noticed that 20 year old Milo turned into 5 year old Milo!
Blake did not understand, but he keep on running and finally Blake won. He was so happy that he won. He was happy because he wanted to prove that he was super fast. But he was also happy to have his brother back. He did not want to see 20 year old Milo ever again!
blake ran back down the stairs. 20 year old milo shouted down to blake but went back to the elevator because it was faster. The elevator Ding but blake had his eyes closed and out came 5 year old milo.
“Like what?” said Blake
“Well, you were not being patient with your little brother Milo.It was bad of you to leave your little brother in the elevator all alone when he is just five.”
Blake gasped..He quickly searched elevator to elevator for his little brother.But,he couldn’t find him.So he asked the young man for help.The man simply smiled.
Blake went to his mother sobbing, to narrate what has happened.
He never could find that 20- year old man was his little brother Milo…
It took me 15 years to get up here huh? It took you 10 years to get up here so we are both twenty!!! Blake says I beat you by 5 years!!!HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
milo told blake how when he was in the elavator someone zapped him with a time machine.
Suddenly,Blake notices that he was also 20 years old!Huh,Blake thinks,well,that’s strange!
Your sister just ran away is almost at the door.Noooooooooo,He said. He ran faster than he ever run before, and at last he touch to door.I win,said blake. Sorry you loss Milo. It’s okay, she said. I’m just not faster than you. Don’t worry, when your my age, you will run fast like me in no time. Thanks blake,said milo.
