Garvey is interested in astronomy, science fiction, reading and anything except for sports—the one thing his dad wants him to be good at. Garvey is kind, funny and smart and is also overweight. He experiences bullying and loneliness, but when his only friend convinces him to join the school chorus, Garvey finds a way to accept himself and reach his father.
